JLens urges META shareholders to support hate content report proposal
JLens, a registered investment advisor, called on Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ: META) shareholders to vote in favor of Proposal 8 at the company's annual meeting scheduled for May 27, 2026. The proposal seeks a report on Meta's policies and effectiveness in addressing antisemitism and other forms of online hate across its platforms.
The shareholder proposal requests Meta prepare a report detailing the company's content moderation practices, enforcement mechanisms, user protection measures, and advertising policies related to hate content. The report would evaluate the adequacy of these efforts and make findings publicly available within one year.
Glass Lewis & Co., an independent proxy advisory firm, recommended shareholders vote in favor of the proposal. A similar JLens proposal at Meta's 2025 annual meeting received nearly 47% support from independent shareholders, according to the press release.
JLens cited recent changes to Meta's content moderation practices, including the dismantling of its third-party fact-checking program and relaxation of its "hateful conduct" community standard. The organization referenced research by the Anti-Defamation League that found examples of extremist content on Instagram, including white supremacist material and accounts linked to designated foreign terrorist organizations.
The ADL report indicated Instagram failed to remove 93% of hateful and extremist content identified by researchers, according to JLens.
"Meta's inaction can expose millions of users to harmful content on its platforms and services every day," said Ari Hoffnung, managing director of JLens. "This apparent and appalling lack of concern for hateful content has the potential to alienate users and advertisers."
JLens filed a Notice of Exempt Solicitation with the Securities and Exchange Commission regarding the shareholder proposal. The organization represents 40 Jewish institutions with $15 billion in communal capital through its Jewish Investor Network.
