SEALSQ subsidiary picks Murcia for €40 million semiconductor facility
SEALSQ Corp (NASDAQ: LAES) announced that Quantix Edge Security has selected the municipality of Murcia, Spain as the location for a semiconductor design industrial center following evaluation of 25 applications from 15 municipalities in the Region of Murcia.
The project involves an estimated investment of €40 million for the development of a semiconductor design and personalization center with capabilities in cybersecurity, post-quantum technology, artificial intelligence, and RISC-V systems.
Eight municipalities reached the final stage of the selection process: Abarán, Alhama de Murcia, Alcantarilla, Caravaca, Cartagena, Ceutí, Jumilla, and Murcia. The chosen site meets requirements for industrial infrastructure with scalability potential, access to utilities, logistics capabilities, and proximity to technical and academic resources.
Quantix is a joint venture in which SETT.ES holds a 49% stake, OdinS and TProtege each own 25.5%, and WISeKey International Holding Ltd (SIX: WIHN; NASDAQ: WKEY) together with SEALSQ holds the remaining 25.5%. OdinS is a spin-off from the University of Murcia.
The facility will focus on semiconductor solutions for defense, critical infrastructure, automotive, and Internet of Things sectors. The project is expected to generate specialized technical jobs as implementation progresses.
Quantix will conduct technical verification with public administrations to define operational, administrative, and infrastructure requirements. A presentation detailing the exact location and center characteristics will be held in coming weeks.
The initiative aligns with European technological autonomy goals and Spain's national strategy to promote the semiconductor industry. SEALSQ develops semiconductors, public key infrastructure, and post-quantum technology hardware and software products.
