ReElement Technologies achieves 99.9% tungsten purity from 28% concentrate
ReElement Technologies Corporation, a minority holding of American Resources Corporation (NASDAQ: AREC), announced it successfully processed tungsten concentrate containing approximately 28% tungsten into material achieving 99.9% purity. The company stated this establishes what it believes to be one of the only demonstrated domestic capabilities in the United States for commercially viable tungsten refining.
The tungsten concentrate was supplied by international mining partners and processed through ReElement's chromatography-based separation and purification platform. Tungsten is used in defense applications including armor-piercing munitions, missile systems, aerospace components, and military electronics, as well as in advanced manufacturing and high-performance tooling.
"ReElement has now demonstrated that its platform can separate and purify tungsten from mined concentrate to 99.9%+ purity," said Mark Jensen, CEO and Chairman of ReElement Technologies. Jensen noted that while tungsten is not part of the company's initial Phase 1 Marion buildout, the achievement provides a pathway to add tungsten refining capacity based on customer demand and commercial commitments.
The United States currently has limited domestic refining capacity for tungsten, according to the press release. ReElement's platform is designed to process various rare earth and critical mineral feedstocks using what the company describes as a more flexible approach compared to conventional methods.
American Resources Corporation continues to work with global partners to source tungsten-bearing materials and other strategic mineral inputs for ReElement's refining platform. ReElement is privately funded and engages with commercial partners, government stakeholders, and defense industry participants to expand domestic refining capabilities for rare earth elements and critical minerals.
