Agilent launches 8890B and 8860B gas chromatographs with GC Assist

May 26, 2026 8:01 AM

Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced the launch of two new gas chromatography systems, the 8890B GC and 8860B GC, equipped with GC Assist technology. The systems integrate intelligent monitoring and remote diagnostics capabilities within laboratory networks.

GC Assist provides system monitoring, built-in troubleshooting, and remote connectivity to analytical instrumentation. The technology enables continuous monitoring of system performance, gas and power usage, and indicators of carrier gas leaks. It flags results that fall outside predefined quality control limits and notifies users when maintenance is required.

The 8860B GC features dual simultaneous injections to increase throughput. The 8890B includes an additional detector position supporting up to four detectors in valve configurations and offers up to a 30% faster oven cooling rate compared to previous models, reducing injection-to-injection cycle times.

Both systems include an oven light for improved visibility during maintenance and onboard maintenance videos. GC Assist provides step-by-step guidance and procedures for operation and maintenance across different experience levels.

"Laboratories are under pressure to deliver high-quality data while managing limited resources," said Warren Potts, vice president and general manager of the Gas Phase Division at Agilent. "By embedding intelligence into the instrument platform, GC Assist helps scientists identify issues earlier, maintain performance, and stay focused on their analytical work."

The systems are designed to reduce unplanned downtime and improve data quality by combining updated hardware with integrated diagnostics. The technology enables scientists to monitor instrument status and perform troubleshooting locally or remotely across secure laboratory networks.

The new systems are being introduced globally and will be supported through Agilent's worldwide sales, service, and application teams. Agilent generated revenue of $6.95 billion in fiscal year 2025 and employs approximately 18,000 people worldwide.
