Tonix presents fibromyalgia patient data at ISPOR meeting
Tonix Pharmaceuticals Holding Corp. (NASDAQ: TNXP) presented a retrospective analysis of U.S. patients with fibromyalgia at the Professional Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research annual meeting held May 17-20, 2026, in Philadelphia.
The study analyzed three years of closed claims data from Symphony Health, focusing on 261,776 U.S. adults with fibromyalgia during the period from April 2023 to March 2024. The median age of patients was 53 years, with 92.1% being female. The demographic breakdown showed 49.6% White non-Hispanic, 22.4% Hispanic, 19.6% Other, and 8.3% Black patients.
The analysis revealed that 93.2% of patients had at least one fibromyalgia-related comorbidity. The most common conditions were anxiety/depression (63.9%), dorsalgia/back pain (56.5%), hypertensive diseases (51.4%), and joint pain (48.4%). Among patients with comorbidities, 36.2% had four or more conditions.
Healthcare resource utilization was extensive among insured patients. Annual costs per patient totaled $45,545, with inpatient services representing the largest component at $29,896, followed by pharmacy costs at $9,453 and outpatient costs at $6,196.
Medication usage reflected a multimodal treatment approach. Antidepressants were the most frequently prescribed (48.2%), followed by NSAID analgesics (43.4%), anticonvulsants (41.6%), gastric acid secretion reducers (41.5%), skeletal muscle relaxants (40.7%), and opioid analgesics (39.4%).
Tonix commercially launched TONMYA for fibromyalgia treatment in November 2025, marking the first new fibromyalgia medication approved in the U.S. in over 15 years. The company stated that more than 10 million adults in the U.S. suffer from fibromyalgia.
