Marqeta expands account services to 30 European countries via Banking Circle
Marqeta Inc. (NASDAQ: MQ) announced it has expanded its portfolio of account and money movement tools into 30 additional European countries through a collaboration with Banking Circle, a Luxembourg-licensed bank regulated by the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier.
The expansion builds on the company's European growth, which includes an 8x increase in total processing volume for its European card programs from 2022 to 2025 and its acquisition of TransactPay in 2025. The TransactPay acquisition brought program management capabilities and regulatory relationship handling to Marqeta's European operations.
The expanded offering enables businesses across Europe to integrate virtual accounts and multi-rail payment capabilities with their card programs. Marqeta's platform provides virtual accounts and digital wallet functionality linked to debit cards, supporting multiple currencies for fund storage within existing offerings.
The service includes integration with the UK's faster payments system for processing payments within seconds, SEPA Credit transfers for moving money across 40+ SEPA member countries in 1-2 days, and SEPA Instant transfers that move funds in under 10 seconds through a 24/7/365 service.
"Europe represents one of our most important growth markets, and bringing these tools to multinational and regional businesses enables them to build the innovative payment experiences that are crucial to their success," said Anthony Peculic, interim chief product officer at Marqeta.
Banking Circle President Mikkel Gronlykke stated the partnership "combines full account functionality and money movement capabilities with a proven card issuing platform, giving businesses in Europe a powerful foundation for building financial products."
Marqeta's platform is designed to meet local regulatory requirements including PSD2 and GDPR. The company offers full card program management for the region, including card fulfillment, fraud management, dispute resolution, and reporting services.
