IBM signs five-year technology modernization deal with Abertis
IBM (NYSE: IBM) announced a five-year agreement with Abertis to modernize the infrastructure company's technological systems across multiple countries. The deal includes migrating to SAP S/4HANA technology and extends more than a decade of collaboration between the companies.
Abertis operates motorways in Europe, the Americas and Asia. The agreement covers systems supporting operations from user management to high-volume transaction processing and incident management across subsidiaries in Spain, France, the United Kingdom, Chile and Puerto Rico, with options to extend to additional markets.
Under the agreement, IBM will support Abertis in modernizing its platform to increase flexibility for different operating models, improve scalability for managing transaction volumes, incorporate analytics capabilities and establish groundwork for new mobility-related services.
IBM Consulting will provide consulting, implementation and technology management services. The companies will operate under a joint governance model with defined success metrics and quality gates designed to minimize business disruption.
The modernization extends to user-facing systems, with IBM supporting development of web portals and mobile applications for account management, vehicle registration, payment methods and trip viewing.
"This allows us the opportunity to make decisions with a long-term perspective and reduce complexity in a very diverse environment," said Miguel Ángel Medina, CIO of Abertis.
José Miguel, Partner and Distribution and Industrial Sector Leader at IBM Spain, said the agreement addresses the infrastructure sector's need for technology to become "a structural condition" rather than a project.
Abertis manages close to 8,000 kilometers of infrastructure across 15 countries in Europe, the Americas and Asia.
