Illumina Inc. (NASDAQ: ILMN) announced the election of David P. King to its board of directors, effective immediately following the company's annual shareholder meeting on May 21, 2026.

King previously served as chairman and chief executive officer of Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings from 2007 to 2019. During his tenure at Labcorp, the company entered the Fortune 500 and was recognized by Fortune as one of the World's Most Admired Companies.

"David brings deep regulatory knowledge, broad industry credibility, and the respect earned over decades at the forefront of healthcare and life sciences," said Jacob Thaysen, chief executive officer of Illumina, in a statement.

King's appointment follows the retirement of three board members: Frances Arnold, Robert S. Epstein, and Gary S. Guthart, who concluded their tenures at the annual meeting.

King currently serves as chairman of Privia Health Group Inc. and as a director of Smith & Nephew. He has previously held board leadership roles at ZimVie from 2022 to 2025 and served as non-executive chairman of PathGroup, LGC Limited, and AmSurg. Earlier in his career, he was a partner at Hogan & Hartson LLP and served as an assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Maryland.

King received a bachelor's degree from Princeton University and a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He currently provides strategic advisory services through KingMan LLC.
