May 21, 2026 9:16 AM

Intuitive (NASDAQ: ISRG) announced multiple updates to its da Vinci 5 surgical system and instrument portfolio, according to a company press release. The medical technology company plans to roll out more than 100 updates and improvements to the da Vinci 5 platform.

The updates include enhanced telepresence capabilities that allow remote physicians to observe procedures with expanded operating room visibility through a new camera system. The company will also introduce mobile login functionality for surgeons to access the da Vinci 5 console using their phones with multifactor authentication.

Additional planned features subject to regulatory clearance include a digital ruler for on-screen measurement between 3 and 15 centimeters, surgeon-initiated tool removal capabilities, and multi-arm targeting functionality. These updates will begin launching in the U.S. in June, with global availability following regulatory approvals.

Intuitive increased the number of uses for five of its six Force Feedback instruments from six to 15 uses, with one instrument cleared for 10 uses. The company stated it anticipates further increases to core instrument usage in 2027 to reduce per-procedure costs.

The company reported that more than 1,400 da Vinci 5 systems have been installed globally, with over 380,000 procedures performed by more than 12,800 surgeons in 10 countries. The systems currently achieve over 99% actual uptime, exceeding the guaranteed 98% uptime in the company's Complete Care plan.

Intuitive also announced enhancements to instrument encryption technology to improve cybersecurity across its product portfolio. The company plans to implement additional software and hardware updates to strengthen system reliability and security.
