Xometry names AI veteran Lukas Biewald to board of directors
Xometry Inc. (NASDAQ: XMTR) announced the appointment of Lukas Biewald to its board of directors. Biewald serves as co-founder and former CEO of Weights & Biases and currently holds the position of SVP of AI Initiatives at CoreWeave Inc.
The manufacturing marketplace company stated that Biewald joins at a time when Xometry has launched new AI capabilities including personalized pricing and design-for-manufacturability intelligence. The company described these features as moving the platform toward autonomous procurement experiences.
"Lukas has spent his career building the platforms that AI teams actually rely on during production, most notably at Weights & Biases, where he helped establish the system of record for how the world's leading teams train and deploy models," said Randy Altschuler, CEO and co-founder at Xometry.
Biewald commented on his appointment, stating: "Manufacturing is one of the most complex, data-intensive industries in the world, and Xometry has built the platform infrastructure to bring it into the AI era."
Prior to his current role, Biewald founded Figure Eight, a machine learning data platform formerly known as CrowdFlower. He also worked as a senior scientist at Powerset and led the Search Relevance team at Yahoo Japan. Biewald holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics and a master's degree in computer science from Stanford University.
CoreWeave acquired Weights & Biases in 2025, according to the company statement. Weights & Biases operates as an AI developer platform used by over one million engineers globally.
