Hims & Hers launches generic semaglutide in Canada at $149 monthly
Hims & Hers Health, Inc. (NYSE: HIMS) announced the availability of generic semaglutide through its platform for eligible customers in Canada, with personalized treatment plans starting at $149 per month in Canadian dollars.
The company stated that Health Canada has authorized generic semaglutide for sale to manage Type 2 diabetes, though it may be prescribed off-label for weight management at a licensed healthcare provider's discretion. Hims & Hers Canada does not currently offer treatment services for Type 2 diabetes.
According to the company, the treatment plans include medication paired with care team support, nutrition and lifestyle guidance, and access to Canadian medical providers. The platform connects customers with Canadian healthcare providers who operate within the local healthcare system.
"Generics have always played a critical role in expanding access to medicines that change lives," said Dr. Sandy Van, Obesity Medicine Specialist and Chief Medical Officer at Hims & Hers Canada. "Today marks a turning point: more choice, lower costs, and a genuine commitment to care built around the whole patient."
The company cited government data indicating that nearly two-thirds of Canadian adults are overweight or living with obesity, with cost serving as a barrier to treatment access. Austin Kouri, General Manager of Hims & Hers Canada, stated that the generic option aims to provide "more Canadians have a real, affordable path to treatment."
The announcement comes as GLP-1 treatments have gained attention for their applications in obesity and metabolic health management. The company positions this launch as part of efforts to expand treatment access in the Canadian market.
