Nexalin Technology secures neurostimulation research language in House bill
Nexalin Technology Inc. (NASDAQ: NXL) announced that language it advocated for was included in a U.S. House appropriations bill directing the Department of Veterans Affairs to research non-invasive deep brain neurostimulation technologies for traumatic brain injury treatment.
The House of Representatives passed the Fiscal Year 2027 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill in a 400-15 vote. The accompanying report language encourages the VA to "support additional research evaluating the safety, efficacy, and potential clinical applications" of non-invasive deep brain neurostimulation technologies for veterans with treatment-resistant traumatic brain injury.
The bill includes $945 million for VA Medical Research. The neurostimulation directive was among a limited number of Congressional directives for this funding account, according to the company's statement.
Nexalin's Nexalin America division, which focuses on government engagement, advocated for the language inclusion. The company develops neurostimulation devices using what it calls Deep Intracranial Frequency Stimulation technology.
The legislation now moves to a House-Senate conference following expected passage of comparable legislation in the Senate. Nexalin is currently conducting clinical research on its neurostimulation technology for traumatic brain injury treatment at UC San Diego.
"For Congress to specifically direct and encourage the VA to support research evaluating the safety, efficacy and clinical applications of non-invasive deep brain techniques for treatment-resistant TBI is, in our view, a strong validation of the category Nexalin is helping pioneer," said Mark White, chief executive officer of Nexalin Technology.
The company's Gen-2 15 milliamp neurostimulation device has received approval in China, Brazil, Oman and Israel, according to the press release.
