May 21, 2026 8:19 AM

Alaska Airlines (NYSE: ALK) began daily nonstop service between Seattle and London Heathrow on May 21, marking the carrier's second European destination this year. The airline will launch service to Reykjavík, Iceland on May 28, following its inaugural transatlantic route to Rome in April.

The year-round London service operates from Heathrow's Terminal 3 using Boeing 787-9 aircraft. Flights depart Seattle at 9:40 p.m., arriving in London at 3:05 p.m. local time. Return flights leave London at 5 p.m., arriving in Seattle at 6:50 p.m.

Alaska Airlines announced plans for a new lounge at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, scheduled to open in late 2027. The facility will span more than 41,000 square feet across two levels with approximately 700 seats, making it one of the largest airline lounges in the country.

The two-level lounge will feature showers, multiple premium bars, à la carte dining and chef-curated seasonal menus. The main level will serve Alaska Lounge members and first-class passengers, while the upper level will be dedicated to international business class and premium loyalty program members.

The Seattle lounge is part of Alaska's broader lounge investment program, which includes new locations in Portland opening this summer, San Diego and an expanded Honolulu facility both scheduled for early 2028.

Alaska Airlines operates international business class Suites on its 787-9 Dreamliner fleet, featuring 34 lie-flat seats with premium amenities. The carrier plans to install Starlink Wi-Fi across its 787 fleet this fall, offering complimentary internet service.

The airline currently serves more than 140 destinations across North America, Latin America, Asia, the Pacific and Europe through its network including subsidiary Hawaiian Airlines.
