Apyx Medical study shows cellulite treatment improvement with dual approach

May 21, 2026 8:03 AM

Apyx Medical Corporation (NASDAQ: APYX) announced publication of clinical study results demonstrating improvement in cellulite and skin laxity using a combination treatment approach. The study, published in Aesthetic Surgery Journal Open Forum, evaluated the use of Avéli for subcision combined with Renuvion technology.

The prospective study included 22 patients who received a single treatment session combining both modalities. At 180 days post-treatment, up to 81.8% of patients showed improvement in cellulite appearance according to the study results.

Objective 3D imaging demonstrated measurable reductions in dimple volume, surface area, and depth, with complete resolution in select cases. Histological analysis in a subset of patients showed increases in collagen and elastin levels, with improved dermal architecture and evidence of tissue remodeling.

"Avéli and Renuvion are effective on their own and when combined as in this study, demonstrate significant and sustained improvement by addressing both the structural cause of dimpling and the quality of the skin itself," said Regis Cain, Senior Director of Marketing at Apyx Medical.

The study was led by Barry E. DiBernardo, MD, who noted that cellulite and skin laxity often require a multi-modality approach. The treatment approach utilized Avéli for targeted subcision to disrupt fibrous septae, followed by Renuvion to reduce skin laxity through controlled helium plasma radiofrequency energy.

Apyx Medical develops surgical aesthetics products including Renuvion and the AYON Body Contouring System for the cosmetic surgery market, and J-Plasma for the hospital surgical market.
