Netflix adds daily live morning show with The Breakfast Club starting June
Netflix will begin streaming The Breakfast Club as a live daily program starting June 1, marking the platform's first weekday morning show. The radio program, hosted by Charlamagne tha God, DJ Envy and Jess Hilarious, will air simultaneously on Netflix while continuing its broadcast on iHeartMedia's Power 105.1/WWPR-FM in New York.
The Netflix version will provide nearly three hours of uninterrupted content each weekday. While the radio broadcast includes commercial breaks, Netflix viewers will receive exclusive bonus segments, behind-the-scenes content and extended discussions during those intervals.
This expansion builds on a video podcast collaboration between iHeartMedia (NASDAQ: IHRT) and Netflix announced in December. The morning show will continue to be syndicated on more than 100 radio stations nationwide through Premiere Networks, with iHeartMedia retaining all audio distribution rights.
"The Breakfast Club has been a cultural staple for years, and we're thrilled to make it our first daily live morning show on Netflix," said Lauren Smith, Netflix VP of Content Licensing and Programming Strategy.
The program launched in 2010 and has featured interviews with political figures including former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden, as well as entertainment personalities such as Jay-Z, Cardi B and Kendrick Lamar. Charlamagne tha God and The Breakfast Club were inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 2020.
Netflix operates in over 190 countries with more than 300 million paid memberships. iHeartMedia describes itself as the leading audio media company in America, reaching nine out of ten Americans monthly through its broadcast radio properties.
