Teleflex presents clinical data showing UroLift system benefits
Teleflex Incorporated (NYSE: TFX) presented clinical data at urological conferences showing patient experience advantages for its UroLift System and long-term toxicity reduction with its Barrigel rectal spacer, according to a company statement.
The data was presented at the American Urological Association Annual Meeting and European Society for Radiotherapy & Oncology Congress in May 2026.
The CLEAR randomized controlled trial, the first head-to-head comparison of minimally invasive surgical therapies for benign prostatic hyperplasia, showed catheter independence from day three through seven was significantly better among UroLift System patients compared to Rezūm patients, with 3 percent requiring catheter versus 20 percent respectively. The study found similar durability through 12 months for both treatments.
"What stands out in our CLEAR RCT study is the consistency of the early patient experience advantages with the UroLift System, particularly catheter independence, rapid recovery, and preservation of sexual function," said Dr. Bilal Chughtai, a urologist with Northwell Health who presented the findings.
Separate three-year data for the Barrigel rectal spacer showed zero percent of patients experienced Grade 2+ toxicity versus 10 percent in the control arm. The results demonstrated sustained reduction in gastrointestinal toxicity for prostate cancer patients receiving radiation therapy.
Teleflex plans to divest its Interventional Urology business unit in the second half of 2026 as part of its strategy to focus on critical care and high-acuity hospital markets. The company states that more than 500,000 men have been treated with the UroLift System in select markets worldwide.
