Vishay introduces automotive optocouplers for EVs and solar inverters
Vishay Intertechnology Inc. (NYSE: VSH) announced the release of two automotive-grade optocouplers designed for electric vehicle and solar inverter applications. The VOWA617A and VOWA618A devices feature phototransistor output in widebody packages with a comparative tracking index of 600.
The optocouplers provide VIORM ratings of 1500 Vpeak and VIOWM ratings of 1060 VRMS, along with external creepage and clearance distances of at least 11 mm. The devices received AEC-Q102 qualification and target applications including grid-connected on-board chargers, DC/DC converters, and battery management system isolation stages.
Each optocoupler contains an infrared emitting diode optically coupled to a silicon planar phototransistor detector in a widebody SMD-8 package. The devices feature an isolation voltage of 5300 VRMS and VIOTM of 8000 Vpeak. Their 600 CTI rating places them in Material Group 1, the highest insulation category.
The optocouplers operate across a temperature range of -40°C to +125°C, with junction temperature capability up to +145°C. The VOWA617A offers current transfer ratios from 50% to 600% at 5 mA input current, while the VOWA618A provides the same ratio range at 1 mA input current.
The devices carry RoHS compliance and halogen-free certification. Vishay stated that samples and production quantities are available with eight-week lead times. The company is based in Malvern, Pennsylvania, and manufactures discrete semiconductors and passive electronic components for various markets including automotive, industrial, and telecommunications.
