Klarna launches shopping search app within ChatGPT platform

May 20, 2026 7:30 AM

Klarna (NYSE: KLAR) has launched its Shopping Search app within ChatGPT, enabling users to search for products directly within the AI platform. The integration allows consumers to receive real-time product results with current prices and availability from multiple merchants without leaving the conversation interface.

The app connects ChatGPT to Klarna's database of more than 100 million products and 400 million merchant listings across 13 markets. Users can describe products they seek and view visual results within ChatGPT before being redirected to merchant sites to complete purchases.

According to data referenced in the company's announcement, traffic from AI platforms to retail sites increased nearly 700% during the 2025 holiday season, with those shoppers converting at 31% higher rates than traditional traffic sources.

"ChatGPT is where millions of people already turn when they're figuring out what they want," said David Sykes, Chief Commercial Officer at Klarna. "We're plugging our merchant network directly into that moment."

The service displays merchants in organic search results based on relevance, with options for sponsored placements. Klarna's Product Search MCP server powers the technology that delivers the commerce data within the ChatGPT interface.

The app is currently available to ChatGPT users who can access it through the platform's Apps section. Klarna operates as a digital bank and payments provider with over 119 million active users globally, processing 3.4 million transactions daily according to the company.
