United Rentals launches Equipment Agent in ChatGPT store

May 20, 2026 5:12 AM

United Rentals (NYSE: URI) announced it has made its Equipment Agent available in the ChatGPT store, marking the first equipment rental application in the platform. The AI-powered tool helps customers identify equipment solutions for jobsites and projects through conversational interactions.

The Equipment Agent was originally launched earlier this year as an equipment recommendation solution for the rental industry. The tool guides customers through project requirements and provides equipment recommendations based on their needs.

"Leveraging AI can make expertise easier to access," said Tony Leopold, Senior Vice President - Chief Technology and Strategy Officer at United Rentals. "By bringing the Equipment Agent into ChatGPT, we're meeting customers in the platforms they already use to plan work, solve problems and make decisions."

The company reported that early usage data shows customers are using the tool for specification and rental-related queries. The Equipment Agent incorporates fleet knowledge, application expertise and operational insight from United Rentals' operations.

United Rentals operates 1,658 rental locations in North America, 44 in Europe, 46 in Australia and 19 in New Zealand. The Stamford, Connecticut-based company maintains a fleet with a total original cost of $22.59 billion and employs approximately 27,900 people.
