Warby Parker launches smart glasses with Google and Samsung technology
Warby Parker Inc. (NYSE: WRBY) announced its first intelligent eyewear collection, developed in partnership with Google and Samsung. The glasses feature Gemini artificial intelligence and work with Android XR to provide real-time assistance to users.
The debut style uses a classic rounded silhouette from the company's design archive and is constructed from ultra-lightweight nylon in a dark green color. The frames include semi-translucent interior temples that reveal the integrated technology while maintaining a streamlined appearance.
"Glasses are the most personal technology we use, and are the very first thing people notice about you," said Dave Gilboa, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Warby Parker. "As we integrate advanced technology into our products, we're staying true to the principles that define great eyewear: beautiful design, precision optics, and exceptional comfort in frames built for all-day, everyday wear."
The intelligent eyewear will allow users to access information, manage tasks, navigate surroundings, and communicate while interacting with existing mobile applications. The technology is designed to provide contextual assistance without interrupting daily activities.
Warby Parker plans to launch the collection this fall with multiple optical and sun styles supporting various prescriptions and lens options. The initial assortment reflects the company's focus on personal expression and choice in wearable technology.
Co-Founder and Co-CEO Neil Blumenthal stated that the glasses provide new capabilities while remaining intuitive and unobtrusive. The frames were designed using the company's proprietary fit and comfort data collected over years of operations.
The New York-based company operates 337 retail stores across the United States and Canada and has distributed more than 25 million glasses through its charitable program since its 2010 founding.
