Academy Sports + Outdoors (NASDAQ: ASO) will open three new store locations during the second quarter, according to a company announcement. The sporting goods retailer plans to open stores in Altoona, Pennsylvania, North Knoxville, Tennessee, and Morristown, Tennessee.

The Altoona location marks the third Academy store in Pennsylvania. The openings follow two new store launches in the first quarter, continuing the company's expansion strategy.

"Our focus remains on staying grounded in what matters most, which is serving families in the communities we call home by making it easier to play, compete, and enjoy the outdoors without breaking the bank," said Eric Friederich, Senior Vice President of Retail Operations at Academy Sports + Outdoors.

Academy will donate $15,000 at each new location to support local non-profit organizations including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Blair County, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley, and Boys & Girls Club of Morristown. The donations are intended to support more than 60 children through these organizations.

Each store opening will include grand opening weekend events featuring deals, giveaways, ribbon cutting ceremonies, and family activities. The Altoona location will host a meet-and-greet with collegiate quarterback Rocco Becht.

The retailer opened 24 new stores across 16 states in 2025, including its first locations in Maryland and Pennsylvania. In 2024, Academy opened 16 new stores across 10 states.

The three new stores are expected to create nearly 200 jobs in their respective communities. Academy operates more than 300 stores across 21 states.
