Otis launches escalator modernization packages for commercial buildings
Otis Worldwide Corporation (NYSE: OTIS) announced the global launch of its Otis Link MOD suite of commercial escalator modernization solutions on May 19. The company states that nearly 20% of the more than 1 million escalators installed globally are now in the modernization window, requiring updates to meet evolving safety standards and performance expectations.
The modernization suite includes four packages: Link MOD Prime, Link MOD Plus, Link MOD Pro, and full replacement with an Otis Link escalator. The Link MOD Pro package delivers complete modernization of critical escalator components while retaining the existing truss structure. Its modular, factory-preassembled design aims to reduce project timelines and minimize on-site work.
"Across the globe, our customers are balancing aging infrastructure with the need to keep people moving safely and reliably every day," said Claire Miller, Executive Vice President and Chief Growth Officer at Otis.
The packages include safety features such as the Otis Step Safety System and optional handrail sanitizing systems. Technical improvements include a self-adjusting handrail system that the company claims reduces handrail-related callbacks by over 90% compared to units without this technology, and an upgraded electronic controller designed to minimize shutdowns.
Available in the U.S. and Canada, the escalators feature a direct drive system that eliminates the traditional drive chain. The system includes the Otis ONE IoT platform in select markets, which collects and analyzes data from escalator sensors to provide performance information and predictive insights.
Additional features include an intelligent lubrication system, standby mode options to reduce energy consumption, and aesthetic customization options including LED lighting and handrail colors.
Otis, headquartered in Connecticut, employs 72,000 people globally and maintains approximately 2.5 million customer units worldwide. Package availability varies by market according to the company.
