Akamai launches AI Brand Presence to optimize content for AI search
Akamai Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM) introduced AI Brand Presence, a service designed to help organizations optimize their content for artificial intelligence search and traffic. The Cambridge, Massachusetts-based company announced the product following internal testing that showed significant increases in brand visibility metrics.
The service automatically translates website content for large language model search and AI agents while monitoring bot activity. Akamai reported observing a 300% annual increase in AI bot traffic, citing industry studies indicating nearly 60% of searches now end without clicking through to websites.
AI Brand Presence combines two functions: AI-optimized context delivery that translates website information into formats AI can process, and a dashboard that tracks which AI models visit sites and what content they consume. The system operates at the network edge without requiring backend changes or affecting human visitor experience.
Akamai tested the technology on its own website first. The company reported an 85% increase in citations and a 364% increase in brand presence for general searches. In ChatGPT specifically, Akamai's presence increased 133% compared to competitors, according to the company's internal measurements.
"The assumptions underpinning 20 years of digital strategy are breaking down in real time," said Patrick Sullivan, CTO of Security Strategy at Akamai. "Businesses face the risk of digital invisibility."
The service aims to help businesses maintain visibility as consumer behavior shifts toward AI-mediated search rather than direct website visits. Akamai plans to make AI Brand Presence available through a phased rollout beginning with select customers in North America.
The launch builds on Akamai's strategy to support autonomous AI agents that act on behalf of users. The company provides cybersecurity and cloud computing services globally.
