Immunic, Inc. (NASDAQ: IMUX) appointed Michael W. Bonney as chair of its board of directors, effective May 16. The biotechnology company announced that Simona Skerjanec will transition from interim chairperson to continue as a board member.

Bonney brings more than 30 years of biopharmaceutical industry experience, including work in multiple sclerosis and central nervous system markets. During his tenure at Biogen Inc., he held senior commercial leadership roles and was involved in the launch of Avonex, a treatment for relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis.

Following his time at Biogen, Bonney served as chief executive officer of Cubist Pharmaceuticals for more than 10 years, leading the company through the commercialization of Cubicin and its subsequent acquisition by Merck & Co. for approximately $9.5 billion. He previously spent over a decade at Zeneca Pharmaceuticals in commercial and strategic roles.

Bonney currently serves as chair of the board at Autolus Therapeutics plc, Dunad Therapeutics LTD, and Santa Ana Bio, Inc. He has previously served as chair or director at companies including Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, Bristol Myers Squibb, Celgene Corporation, and Sarepta Therapeutics.

Immunic is developing vidofludimus calcium for relapsing multiple sclerosis, with phase 3 clinical trial results expected by the end of 2026. The company plans to advance the treatment toward potential regulatory approval and commercial readiness.

"Mike's proven abilities in executive leadership at Cubist, combined with his success in helping to make Avonex a blockbuster therapy for MS, are attributes that will be invaluable to Immunic," said Daniel Vitt, the company's chief executive officer.
