EnerSys launches AlphaCell 4.0HP+ battery for outdoor telecom networks

May 18, 2026 4:16 PM

EnerSys (NYSE: ENS) announced the launch of its AlphaCell 4.0HP+ battery, designed for outdoor and edge communications network deployments across North America. The Thin Plate Pure Lead battery incorporates an integrated catalyst to improve electrochemical stability under variable operating conditions.

The company stated that cable broadband and communications networks expanding into outdoor environments face greater environmental variability within battery enclosures. Sustained elevated operating conditions can increase energy consumption and accelerate battery degradation, impacting replacement interval stability.

The AlphaCell 4.0HP+ battery features catalyst-enhanced TPPL technology designed to promote internal gas recombination during float operation. According to EnerSys, internal testing and historical performance data showed the design delivers lower float current under elevated operating conditions, reduced water loss, and improved performance retention compared to non-catalyst TPPL designs.

"As communications networks continue to push further into outdoor and edge environments, environmental exposure has become a measurable operating cost, not just a design consideration," said John Hewitt, Vice President, Communications, Americas, EnerSys. "The AlphaCell 4.0HP+ battery is engineered to help customers manage that reality by reducing exposure-driven variability in replacement interval behavior."

The battery comes with a six-year warranty and is sold across North America through EnerSys's existing distribution network. The company markets the product as supporting more predictable performance over the battery's service life, particularly in outdoor enclosures and hard-to-access sites.

EnerSys designs and manufactures energy systems solutions for industrial applications, serving customers in over 100 countries through its global sales and manufacturing network.
