OpenAI partners with DELL to deploy Codex in enterprise environments

May 18, 2026 1:16 PM

OpenAI and Dell Technologies (NYSE: DELL) announced a collaboration to help enterprises deploy Codex in hybrid and on-premises environments where their data and systems operate.

Codex, described as one of OpenAI's fastest-growing enterprise products, is used by more than 4 million developers weekly. Companies currently use it across software development processes including code review, test coverage, incident response, and repository analysis.

The partnership will integrate Codex with Dell's AI Data Platform, which businesses use to store, organize, and govern enterprise data on-premises. The collaboration aims to bring Codex closer to internal resources such as codebases, documentation, business systems, and team workflows.

Dell and OpenAI will explore connecting Codex with the Dell AI Factory, which powers AI workloads for businesses. This exploration includes ways for Codex, ChatGPT Enterprise, and other API-based solutions to interface with AI Factory for data preparation, system management, testing, and AI application deployment within hybrid or on-premises Dell infrastructure.

"Collaborating with OpenAI brings together Dell's industry-leading enterprise grade infrastructure with cutting edge agentic AI harnesses and models from OpenAI," said Ihab Tarazi, senior vice president and chief technology officer of Infrastructure Solutions Group at Dell Technologies.

The companies stated that teams are beginning to use Codex-powered agents for tasks beyond coding, including gathering context across tools, preparing reports, routing product feedback, qualifying leads, writing follow-ups, and coordinating work across business systems.

The partnership aims to allow enterprises to deploy AI agents at scale while maintaining security controls and flexibility for various use cases across software development and knowledge work.
