Ford Energy signs five-year deal for up to 20 GWh battery storage supply
Ford Energy, a subsidiary of Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F), signed a five-year framework agreement with EDF power solutions North America to supply up to 20 gigawatt hours of battery energy storage systems.
Under the agreement, EDF power solutions can procure up to 4 GWh of DC Block battery energy storage systems annually from Ford Energy. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2028, according to the companies' announcement.
The deal positions Ford Energy as a supplier for EDF power solutions' grid-scale energy storage projects across the United States. EDF power solutions is an entity of the EDF Group and operates as an independent power producer in North America.
Ford Energy's DC Block is a 20-foot containerized energy storage system with 5.45 MWh capacity per unit. The system uses lithium iron phosphate prismatic cells and operates in the 1,040-1,500 VDC range with liquid-cooled thermal management.
"This agreement with EDF power solutions validates the market's need for a BESS supplier that combines industrial-scale manufacturing discipline with full lifecycle accountability," said Lisa Drake, president of Ford Energy.
Tristan Grimbert, CEO of EDF power solutions North America, stated that supply chain reliability and product quality are priorities as the company expands its energy storage portfolio.
Ford Energy assembles battery energy storage systems in the United States for utility-scale, data center, and commercial customers. EDF power solutions has developed 26 gigawatts of projects and maintains 17 gigawatts under service contracts across North America.
