Markel International names Sebastian Rice head of global trade credit development
Markel Insurance, the insurance operation within Markel Group Inc. (NYSE: MKL), appointed Sebastian Rice as Head of Global Development for Trade Credit, effective immediately, according to a company statement.
Rice will report to Phil Amlot, Global Head of Trade Credit – International, and coordinate trade credit underwriters across Markel's offices in New York, Singapore, Dubai and London. His responsibilities include business development and driving growth across the UK and Europe while developing solutions for clients navigating supply chain disruption and credit risks.
Since joining Markel two years ago, Rice contributed to developing new solutions, including the company's Non-Cancellable Limits offering. He previously served as Head of Business Development Europe – Trade Credit after joining the company in January 2024.
"With demand for trade credit insurance at record levels and underwriting conditions becoming increasingly complex, Seb's expertise and leadership will be invaluable as we help clients navigate increased risk and build enhanced resilience," Amlot said in the statement.
Rice brings more than 20 years of underwriting experience from previous roles at Euler Hermes, Atradius and QBE Europe. In his new position, he will focus on delivering capacity, solutions and service for brokers and clients while aligning partner relationships across global markets.
The appointment comes as trade credit insurance demand reaches what the company describes as record levels amid complex underwriting conditions and geopolitical uncertainty affecting global trade.
