Energy Secretary Wright expects China to increase US crude oil purchases

May 15, 2026 9:01 AM

Investing.com -- U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said Friday he expects China to become a larger buyer of American crude oil following disruptions to global energy supplies caused by U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran.

In an interview with CNBC, Wright said there is significant interest from Asian buyers for increased oil shipments from Alaska. He noted that while U.S. oil currently flows primarily from the Gulf of Mexico, future exports to China are expected to grow, with additional volumes coming from Alaska.

Wright also stated the U.S. will maintain its diesel exports during this period of supply disruption.
