Aspen Aerogels, Inc. (NYSE: ASPN) announced the staged restart of manufacturing operations at its East Providence, Rhode Island facility following an incident on April 8.

The company completed mechanical, operational, and safety reviews in coordination with local, state, and federal agencies before initiating the restart. Aspen conducted facility inspections, safety reviews of equipment, and extensive testing to meet operational standards required for resuming operations.

The company plans a phased ramp-up of production and expects returning the facility to full capabilities will take time. Aspen has not specified the timeline for reaching full operational capacity.

"We deeply value our place in the East Providence community. Our absolute first priority remains the safety of our employees and our neighbors as we methodically bring our facility back online," said Don Young, President and CEO.

The Northborough, Massachusetts-based company manufactures aerogel products for electric vehicle thermal management and energy infrastructure applications. Its product lines include PyroThin for electric vehicle markets and Cryogel and Pyrogel products for energy companies.

The company did not disclose details about the nature of the April incident or its impact on production capacity. Aspen stated the restart followed collaboration with East Providence officials including Mayor DaSilva, Fire Chief Carey, and Building Official Walker.
