Granite wins $32 million Alaska highway reconstruction contract

May 14, 2026 4:31 PM

Granite Construction (NYSE: GVA) received a $32 million contract from the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities for the Parks Highway MP 315–325 Reconstruction project near Nenana, Alaska, according to a company statement.

The project represents the second phase of a two-part Parks Highway reconstruction program that Granite has been working on since 2022. The work includes approximately 1.2 million cubic yards of excavation and embankment and 22,000 tons of asphalt.

Granite will supply materials using a portable crusher and asphalt plant. The company reduced imported gravel requirements from an estimated 50,000 tons to 8,000 tons by using existing on-site materials and excess materials from the first phase.

The project team developed a temporary crossing over the Parks Highway for articulated haul units to allow traffic to flow without interruption and eliminate the need for traffic control operations.

"This project will help improve safety and operations for goods and people moving through this critical corridor," said Jennifer Wright, Project Manager at Alaska DOT&PF. "The CM/GC process and the project team were key to delivering the project on time and within budget."

Construction is scheduled to begin in late second quarter 2026, with substantial completion expected in third quarter 2028. The project uses a Construction Manager/General Contractor delivery method.

Granite worked with Michael Baker International as designer of record and Stanton as independent cost estimator on the project.
