Fiserv partners with OpenAI to integrate AI into banking services
Fiserv Inc. (NASDAQ: FISV) announced a collaboration with OpenAI to integrate artificial intelligence into its financial technology platforms. The partnership will focus on four areas: building strategic agents, modernizing bank implementations, developing banking-specific AI capabilities, and advancing cybersecurity.
The companies plan to develop AI agents on Fiserv's agentOS platform, which launched on May 14. The collaboration aims to streamline workflows that require significant operational capacity at financial institutions.
The partnership will explore using AI to reduce timelines and risks associated with core conversions, digital migrations, and system integrations. These modernization projects typically absorb substantial resources that banks would prefer to allocate to customer service.
"Financial institutions are dealing with operational challenges that have outpaced what conventional software can solve," said Dhivya Suryadevara, Co-President of Fiserv. The collaboration will bring AI directly into Fiserv's platforms and client services.
Ashley Kramer, VP of Enterprise at OpenAI, stated the companies believe AI's impact will come from deep integration into existing banking systems. The partnership aims to help financial institutions modernize faster and operate more efficiently.
Joint teams from both companies are working across the focus areas, with progress expected to reach Fiserv client institutions throughout 2026 and beyond. Fiserv serves thousands of financial institutions, including community banks and credit unions.
The collaboration includes exploring AI applications for cybersecurity capabilities. Fiserv participates in the Trusted Access for Cyber program, which launched earlier this year to strengthen digital infrastructure security.
Fiserv indicated it expects to expand the relationship into additional workflows where AI can deliver operational impact for clients as the collaboration develops.
