Bell selects Bird Construction for Saskatchewan AI data centre
Bell Canada (TSX: BCE) (NYSE: BCE) announced Bird Construction Inc. (TSX: BDT) as the construction partner for its 300 MW AI data centre in Sherwood, Saskatchewan, and established a long-term partnership for nationwide AI infrastructure development.
The Sherwood facility represents a cornerstone of Bell AI Fabric's strategy to deliver AI infrastructure across Canada. The project will provide capacity to customers Cerebras and CoreWeave, with the first phase expected to come online in the first half of 2027.
Bird Construction will serve as lead construction partner for the Sherwood facility. Alton Tangedal Architect Ltd., based in Regina, has been appointed Architect of Record, while George Gordon Developments Ltd. will deliver site services. These partnerships build on previously announced Saskatchewan-based contractors for early construction phases, including Regina-based Hipperson Construction.
The Sherwood facility marks the first project under a strategic partnership between Bell and Bird. Under the agreement, Bird will serve as Bell's preferred construction partner for potential future AI data centre projects supporting Bell AI Fabric's nationwide buildout.
As part of the strategic partnership, Bird will issue Bell warrants to acquire up to 2,625,000 common shares. The warrants include 750,000 vesting on delivery of the Sherwood facility and the remainder vesting in connection with potential future AI data centre projects over five years. The warrants have a seven-year term and an exercise price of $52.00. The issuance is subject to TSX approval.
Bird, founded in Moose Jaw in 1920, has maintained a presence in Saskatchewan and delivered large-scale infrastructure and energy projects across the province. The company will prioritize local and Indigenous workforce participation in coordination with Bell and other project partners.
