Humana commits over $1 million to Louisiana health initiatives
Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) announced its Medicaid managed care plan, Healthy Horizons in Louisiana, will invest more than $1 million in strategic health initiatives across the state. The funding targets expanding access to care, addressing chronic disease, and strengthening behavioral and maternal health supports.
The investment will support six organizations working on health priorities identified by the Louisiana Department of Health. Recipients include Allegiance Health, which will operate mobile health services providing preventive care and screenings in urban and rural areas across Louisiana.
The American Diabetes Association will receive funding to expand Project Power Youth, serving 500 children ages 5-12 with nutrition education and physical activity programming aimed at preventing type 2 diabetes in high-risk communities.
Additional recipients include the Community Foundation of North Louisiana's Step Forward Initiative for youth mental health programs, NOELA Community Health Center for cancer screenings in New Orleans East, Second Harvest Food Bank for mobile food markets serving 23 parishes, and Xavier University of Louisiana for physician assistant program scholarships.
"Louisiana families deserve opportunities for better health—no matter where they live," said Michelle Alletto, President of Humana Healthy Horizons in Louisiana.
The grants will fund mobile health services, diabetes and cancer prevention programs, trauma-informed youth initiatives, and health workforce development pathways. The funding supports state priorities including quality outcomes, access to care, chronic disease prevention, behavioral health, workforce development, and maternal and child health.
