UL Solutions launches AI software for product carbon footprint calculations

May 13, 2026 8:31 AM

UL Solutions Inc. (NYSE: ULS) announced the launch of ULTRUS UL 360, an AI-powered software designed to help organizations calculate product carbon footprints using supplier emissions data. The Northbrook, Illinois-based company said the software aims to improve the quality of supplier data used in Scope 3 reporting.

The software targets sustainability, procurement and product teams that need to request, organize and use supplier emissions data across products and suppliers. ULTRUS UL 360 centralizes supplier data to help teams produce product-level carbon footprints across portfolios.

"Companies are being asked for product-level carbon information more often, and Scope 3 supplier data can be one of the biggest bottlenecks," said John Genovesi, executive vice president and president of Risk and Compliance Software at UL Solutions.

The launch addresses growing regulatory pressure on companies to measure and disclose Scope 3 emissions. In Europe, the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive expands climate reporting requirements. California's SB 253 requires large companies operating in the state to report Scope 3 emissions, which occur outside a company's direct operations.

Many organizations currently rely on manual spreadsheets and individual supplier questionnaires to gather emissions data, making it difficult to generate consistent results across products, according to the company.

"New disclosure rules are raising the bar for Scope 3 data quality," said Simin Zhou, vice president and general manager of Software at UL Solutions. "Our AI-powered software brings structure to supplier inputs, turning them into consistent, audit-ready product carbon footprints companies can use for Scope 3 reporting and decisions."

The ULTRUS UL 360 software is available immediately, according to the company's press release statement.
