electroCore study shows Quell device reduces fibromyalgia pain

May 13, 2026 8:00 AM

electroCore Inc. (NASDAQ: ECOR) announced publication of clinical trial results in JAMA Network Open showing its Quell electrical nerve stimulation device reduced movement-related pain when combined with physical therapy for fibromyalgia patients.

The cluster randomized clinical trial enrolled 384 participants with fibromyalgia, with 191 receiving physical therapy plus Quell treatment and 193 receiving physical therapy alone. At day 60, the physical therapy-Quell group showed significantly greater reduction in movement-evoked pain compared to the physical therapy-only group, with a between-group difference of -1.2 points and a P-value of less than 0.001.

The study found statistically significant improvements favoring the combined treatment group across multiple measures including resting pain, pain interference, movement-evoked fatigue, resting fatigue, and fibromyalgia impact scores. Benefits appeared within 30 days and continued for up to six months. Among participants, 81% reported finding Quell helpful and 55% continued daily use.

The Quell device is FDA-cleared for fibromyalgia treatment. Peter Staats, electroCore's chief medical officer, stated that conservative estimates suggest fibromyalgia affects approximately 2% to 4% of the population.

electroCore develops bioelectronic medicine and wellness products. The company's prescription products include gammaCore vagus nerve stimulation and the Quell neurostimulator for chronic pain treatment, according to the press release.
