Google unveils Googlebook laptops powered by Gemini Intelligence
Investing.com -- Google announced Tuesday the launch of Googlebook, a new category of laptops built around its Gemini artificial intelligence system and designed to integrate with Android devices.
The company said Googlebook represents a shift from traditional operating systems to what it calls an intelligence system, combining elements of Android and ChromeOS. The laptops will feature access to Google Play apps and Chrome browser functionality.
A key feature is Magic Pointer, developed with Google DeepMind, which activates when users wiggle their cursor. The tool provides contextual suggestions based on screen content, such as creating calendar events from dates in emails or visualizing furniture placements by selecting images.
Googlebook will include Create your Widget, allowing users to generate custom desktop widgets through text prompts. The feature can pull information from Gmail, Calendar and internet searches to create personalized dashboards with details like flight information and restaurant reservations.
The laptops will support Quick Access, enabling users to view and insert files from their Android phones directly through the laptop's file browser without transferring data. Users will also be able to open Android phone applications on their Googlebook screens.
Google said it is partnering with Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo to manufacture the first Googlebooks. The devices will feature what the company calls a glowbar, a distinctive design element on each laptop.
Google introduced Chromebook over 15 years ago. The company said it will share additional details about Googlebook later this year.
