California American Water signs regional water management agreement
California American Water has signed the Water Forum Agreement 2050, a regional partnership for water management and environmental stewardship in the Sacramento region through 2050, according to a company statement.
Audie Foster, Director of Operations for California American Water's Northern Division, signed the agreement on behalf of the company. The partnership includes water providers, public agencies, environmental organizations, and business leaders.
The Water Forum Agreement 2050 builds on the original agreement signed in 2000 and addresses challenges from climate change, including droughts, increased water demand, and impacts on the lower American River ecosystem.
The agreement maintains two objectives: ensuring a reliable water supply for economic and community needs, and protecting the fishery, wildlife, recreational, and aesthetic values of the lower American River.
The updated agreement introduces new strategies, including the American River Climate Adaptation Program (ARCAP), designed to improve regional water resilience through increased storage, groundwater recharge support, conservation improvements, and preservation of colder river water for fish and wildlife.
California American Water is part of the Water Forum's Water Caucus and will work with regional stakeholders to implement the agreement's goals.
California American Water is a subsidiary of American Water (NYSE: AWK), which provides water and wastewater services to approximately 14 million people across 14 states and 18 military installations.
