Stellantis CEO says partnerships central to carmaker's strategy
Investing.com -- Stellantis NV Chief Executive Officer Antonio Filosa said Tuesday that partnerships will be central to the carmaker's strategy as it prepares to unveil details of a restructuring later this month.
"Partnerships will be embedded in our strategy going forward," Filosa said at the Financial Times' Future of the Car conference in London. The company earlier in May unveiled a plan for deeper cooperation with China's Leapmotor in Europe.
Stellantis is working to secure partnerships that can have "benefits for both sides," Filosa said. The company aims to retain jobs while developing models for brands like Fiat, he added. Filosa said such agreements don't necessarily put independence at risk.
"Partnerships don't need to be mono-directional," he said.
The owner of Maserati, Fiat and Peugeot brands is restructuring its European operations while increasing spending in its North American business. Last week, Stellantis said two of its factories in Spain will produce electric vehicles for Zhejiang Leapmotor Technology Co.
Amsterdam-based Stellantis also recently revived a partnership with Dongfeng Motor Corp. in China. Filosa didn't rule out partnerships for the US market.
While he didn't expect Chinese carmakers in the US for some years, Filosa said the US market could provide ground for partnerships.
Stellantis said last week it plans to deepen cooperation with Leapmotor on purchasing to cut costs. The company is set to unveil its business review on May 21 in the US.
