Detroit Pistons install Motorola Solutions security at NBA's largest practice facility
The Detroit Pistons have implemented a security system from Motorola Solutions (NYSE: MSI) at their new practice facility, the Henry Ford Health Detroit Pistons Performance Center, according to a company statement.
The 185,000-square-foot facility in Detroit's New Center neighborhood houses the NBA's largest practice facility and serves as the team's primary business headquarters. The security system integrates video surveillance, access control and voice communications into a unified platform.
Matt Grimm, senior director of Corporate Security for the Detroit Pistons, said the system enables security staff to maintain protection for players and staff while keeping the facility accessible to community members who visit the health center and retail establishments within the complex.
The facility includes practice courts, an NBA merchandise store, dining establishments and the Henry Ford Health Center for Athletic Medicine. Technology integrator Knight Watch assisted with the deployment of the security infrastructure.
"Securing a heavily-trafficked, 185,000-square-foot space brings unique challenges," said Ryan Bailey, CEO of Knight Watch. The company is based in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Jehan Wickramasuriya, senior vice president of Security & Resilience Software at Motorola Solutions, said the integrated system allows security operations to manage events from a central hub rather than relying solely on physical barriers and guards.
The Performance Center opened as part of the Pistons' move from their previous training facility. The implementation represents Motorola Solutions' approach to combining previously separate security technologies into a single operational system.
