PTC launches direct Altium integration for Onshape platform
PTC Inc. (NASDAQ: PTC) announced a new integration between its Onshape computer-aided design platform and Altium's printed circuit board design software. The connector enables electrical and mechanical engineering teams to collaborate by bringing PCB designs directly into Onshape and synchronizing changes across both platforms.
The integration operates entirely in the cloud without requiring file conversions, downloads, or manual data transfers. Changes made in either platform are automatically reflected in the other, which the company states eliminates version mismatches between electrical and mechanical designs.
The connector allows teams to identify design problems earlier by verifying that circuit boards fit correctly within their enclosures before manufacturing. Both platforms maintain their respective version control systems, with electrical history in Altium and mechanical history in Onshape, connected in real time.
"This collaboration marks an important milestone for cloud-native engineering. By expanding our direct ECAD-MCAD CoDesign technology, we are enabling a truly cohesive connection between leading cloud-based design platforms," said Nikolay Ponomarenko, Vice President of Altium R&D.
The integration is accessible from any web browser, allowing stakeholders to review and comment on designs without software installation. David Katzman, General Manager of Onshape and Arena at PTC, said the integration gives teams "continuous access to a shared, real-time product definition."
PTC, headquartered in Boston, employs over 7,000 people and supports more than 30,000 customers globally, according to the press release.
