ENKA and GE Vernova begin operations at 852 MW power plant in Turkey
ENKA and GE Vernova Inc (NYSE: GEV) announced the start of commercial operations at the 852 megawatt Kırklareli power plant in Turkey, located approximately 20 miles from the Bulgarian border.
The facility represents the first HA-powered plant in Turkey and includes GE Vernova's 9HA.02 gas turbine with H78 generator, an STF-D650 steam turbine, and a triple-pressure Heat Recovery Steam Generator. The plant is expected to achieve above 63% net efficiency in combined-cycle mode.
ENKA executed all engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning work using in-house teams over a 36-month period, requiring approximately 8 million person-hours. The project was completed under the oversight of senior government officials, including Turkey's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar.
GE Vernova will provide long-term maintenance services under a multi-year agreement to support asset reliability and availability. The company has maintained operations in Turkey for more than 75 years and now holds an installed base of approximately 33.5 gigawatts across multiple energy technologies in the country.
With the Kırklareli facility operational, GE Vernova's total installed gas power capacity in Turkey has reached approximately 13.5 gigawatts. The plant's commissioning occurs as Turkey works to modernize its power system to meet increasing electricity demand through enhanced efficiency and grid diversification.
According to the International Energy Agency, natural gas power generation supplies more than a quarter of Turkey's electricity and has expanded significantly over the past two decades as part of the country's energy mix.
