Lotus announces hybrid-v8 supercar for 2028 under new strategy
Lotus Technology Inc. (NASDAQ: LOT) announced its Focus 2030 strategy, which includes plans for a hybrid-V8 supercar scheduled for market delivery in 2028. The company said the Type 135 supercar will feature over 1,000 horsepower and will be manufactured in Europe.
The strategy centers on four pillars: brand reinforcement, multi-powertrain approach, partner collaboration, and financial discipline. Lotus plans to pursue a mix of internal combustion engine, plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, and battery electric vehicle options, targeting approximately 60% hybrid and 40% battery electric vehicle volume mix.
The company's X-Hybrid technology launched on the Eletre model in China, where it received more than 1,000 orders in the first month. European deliveries are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026.
"Focus 2030 will reset both the brand and the business, keeping us true to our DNA," said Qingfeng Feng, Chief Executive Officer of Lotus Tech. "We are obsessed with engineering, performance and building drivers' cars, and that is what will grow this business."
Lotus confirmed continuation of its Emira model and plans to reveal an updated version in the coming weeks. The company maintains its battery electric vehicle portfolio including the Eletre SUV, Emeya GT, and Evija hypercar.
The strategy includes planned integration of Lotus UK and Lotus Tech into a single entity to streamline operations. Lotus is targeting 30,000 annual sales units as its model lineup stabilizes, with China serving as the primary volume growth market and Europe building on the brand's racing heritage.
The company operates across the UK, EU, and China, focusing on luxury electric vehicles and next-generation automotive technologies.
