NASDAQ reports short interest data for April 30 settlement date

NASDAQ (NASDAQ: NDAQ) reported short interest positions in its listed securities as of the April 30, 2026 settlement date. Short interest across all 5,358 NASDAQ securities totaled 20,604,236,849 shares, compared with 20,498,266,178 shares across 5,332 issues in the previous reporting period ending April 15, 2026.

The April 30 short interest represents 2.22 days of average daily volume, an increase from 2.16 days in the prior period. NASDAQ Global Market securities accounted for 16,707,836,595 shares of short interest across 3,714 securities, up from 16,579,123,734 shares in 3,689 securities in the previous period.

Short interest in NASDAQ Capital Market securities totaled 3,896,400,254 shares across 1,644 securities, compared with 3,919,142,444 shares in 1,643 securities for the April 15 settlement date. This represents 1.15 days of average daily volume, down slightly from 1.16 days previously.

The reported figures reflect total shares sold short by all broker-dealers regardless of exchange affiliations. NASDAQ defines a short sale as the sale of a security the seller does not own or any sale completed through delivery of a borrowed security.

The data shows an increase of 26 securities covered in the latest reporting period compared to the previous one. NASDAQ Global Market short interest increased both in total shares and days of average daily volume, while Capital Market short interest decreased slightly in total shares.
