Square launches drive-thru solution for quick-service restaurants

May 11, 2026 10:00 AM

Square announced Square for Drive-Thru, an integrated solution designed to streamline operations for quick-service restaurants. The platform combines order capture, kitchen operations, and customer handoff into a single workflow system.

The solution connects order-taking, kitchen preparation, and handoff across Square's point of sale and kitchen display systems. Orders placed at menu boards appear instantly on confirmation screens for customers, while kitchen display system routing sends orders to appropriate stations with automatic numbering labels.

Square developed the product in partnership with The Howard Company and Nanonation, which provide drive-thru infrastructure and digital signage. The collaboration combines Square's point of sale and payment capabilities with the partners' digital menu boards and installation services.

"Square for Drive-Thru is great for both our customers and staff," said John-Michael Johnson, franchisee of PJ's Coffee Fort Mill. "Customers can see their entire order on the Order Confirmation Screen, including modifiers and customizations, giving them confidence and helping our staff catch mistakes immediately."

Square also introduced several additional restaurant features, including a Reporting API for external developers, a Combos feature for bundled menu items, and a Custom Report Builder currently in beta testing. The company added an enhanced Fulfillments workflow for coordinating pickup, delivery, and dine-in orders, plus Custom Payment Methods for recording non-Square transactions.

Square for Drive-Thru is available through an Early Access Program, with broader availability planned for summer. The announcement was made through a press release from the company.

Square serves millions of sellers globally with point of sale, payment processing, and business management tools integrated into a single platform.
