Microsoft partners with Discord to offer gaming benefits
Microsoft's (NASDAQ: MSFT) Xbox announced an expanded partnership with Discord that will provide gaming benefits to members of both platforms' subscription services.
Discord updated its Discord Nitro membership to include a starter edition of Xbox Game Pass where available. The update allows eligible Discord Nitro members to discover and play games through Xbox Game Pass.
Discord also introduced features that make it easier to find and launch Game Pass games. Users can now click a "Play" button when they see friends playing games in streams or Discord activity feeds and select "Xbox Game Pass" to start playing.
Microsoft said eligible Xbox Game Pass subscribers will receive Discord Nitro benefits starting later this month. These benefits include 250 Discord Orbs monthly, 1.2x extra Orbs when completing Quests, and automatic Discord Shop discounts.
The companies have previously collaborated on features including Discord voice chat on Xbox consoles and live streaming capabilities to Discord friends. The partnership aims to connect gaming communities across both platforms.
Microsoft stated it will provide additional details on how Xbox Game Pass subscribers can access Discord benefits through its social channels and Xbox Wire platform.
