May 11, 2026 8:43 AM

Astrotech Corporation (NASDAQ: ASTC) announced its 1st Detect TRACER 1000 system received ECAC/EU G1 approval for aviation security applications. The certification meets European Civil Aviation Conference and European Commission requirements for trace detection systems used in airport security screening.

The TRACER 1000 system uses mass spectrometry technology for molecular identification at security checkpoints. According to the company, the system is designed to reduce false alarms while maintaining screening speed for passenger lines.

"Aviation security requires a balance of screening speed and detection certainty," said Thomas B. Pickens III, Astrotech's chairman and chief executive officer. "Achieving ECAC approval and EU G1 certification validates our ability to deliver that balance."

Astrotech stated the TRACER 1000 systems are currently deployed in 16 countries worldwide. The system features what the company describes as an expandable threat library designed to adapt to emerging security risks.

1st Detect, based in Austin, Texas, operates as a subsidiary of Astrotech Corporation and develops trace detection equipment for security and detection markets. The subsidiary manufactures both TRACER 1000 ETD and TRACER 1000 NTD systems.

Astrotech Corporation operates through multiple subsidiaries that serve specialized markets including security screening, agriculture processing, industrial manufacturing, health diagnostics, and environmental testing. The company is headquartered in Austin, Texas.
