ROKU to stream inaugural Enhanced Games on May 24
Roku Inc. (NASDAQ: ROKU) will serve as the North American streaming platform for the inaugural Enhanced Games, scheduled for May 24 at 9 p.m. EST. The event will stream free on the Roku Sports Channel across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The Enhanced Games represents a sporting competition that permits approved use of performance-enhancing substances alongside scientific monitoring. The event will take place at a purpose-built 2,500-seat venue at Resorts World Las Vegas, featuring swimming, sprinting, and weightlifting competitions.
Former NFL player Emmanuel Acho will host the broadcast, with longevity expert Bryan Johnson serving as Human Enhancement Analyst. Participating athletes include Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, British Olympic medalist Ben Proud, American Olympic medalist Fred Kerley, and Olympic weightlifter Boady Santavy. Olympic gold medalist swimmer Hunter Armstrong and sprinter Tristan Evelyn will compete as non-enhanced athletes.
Enhanced Group Inc. (NYSE: ENHA) operates under what it describes as an Enhanced Medical Program, which functions as a clinical trial. Athletes have undergone 16 weeks of monitoring while training in the UAE. The company states that athletes maintain autonomy to compete either naturally or through the enhanced program.
"We look forward to bringing Roku users across North America the excitement and energy of this one-of-a-kind competition," said Joe Franzetta, Head of Sports at Roku.
The Killers will headline the closing ceremonies. Van Wagner produces the event in association with Lionsgate Alternative Television.
The Roku Channel operates as a free ad-supported streaming service, claiming the position as the number two app on the Roku platform in the United States by streaming hours.
