Pony.ai reports 544% jump in robotaxi orders during China holiday
Pony.ai Inc. (NASDAQ: PONY) reported average daily paid robotaxi orders increased 544% year-over-year during China's Labor Day holiday from May 1-5, according to a company statement.
The autonomous driving technology company said average daily paid orders during the Labor Day period also rose 155% compared to the New Year holiday earlier in 2026. The growth coincided with the company's fleet expansion following the launch of its seventh-generation robotaxi.
Pony.ai deployed hundreds of robotaxis to support transportation for concert events in Guangzhou's Nansha district, where 220,000 attendees gathered for four performances. The company transported more than 3,000 concertgoers during peak departure hours from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. across four nights.
The robotaxi service was included in official post-event transportation guidance published by local government. More than 95% of concert attendees traveled from outside the city, according to the company.
Pony.ai said it remains on track to exceed its target of 3,000 robotaxi vehicles by the end of 2026. The company has expanded service coverage through partnerships with mobility platforms and automakers since launching its Gen-7 robotaxi.
A Boston Consulting Group report cited by the company found that more than half of first-time robotaxi riders in China showed preference for driverless rides over human-driven services after their initial experience. The report noted consumer willingness to replace existing ride-hailing trips with robotaxi services as coverage areas expand.
