Rocket Lab partners with Raytheon for Space Force interceptor program
Rocket Lab Corporation (NASDAQ: RKLB) announced it has been selected alongside Raytheon to demonstrate advanced capabilities for the U.S. Space Force's Space Based Interceptor program. The program focuses on strengthening national missile defense capabilities.
The partnership will work on developing solutions for countering hypersonic threats, according to the announcement made May 7. Brad Clevenger, President of Rocket Lab USA, stated that "next-generation missile defense, including the ability to counter hypersonic threats, is a national security priority."
The Space Based Interceptor program represents an expansion of Rocket Lab's involvement in national security and defense programs. The company currently operates across launch and space systems portfolios for government clients.
Rocket Lab provides launch services, spacecraft, payloads, and satellite components for commercial, government, and national security markets. The company's Electron rocket serves as an orbital small rocket, while its HASTE rocket provides hypersonic test launch capability for the U.S. government and allied nations. The company is also developing its Neutron launch vehicle for medium launch capabilities.
The company's spacecraft and satellite components have supported more than 1,700 missions including GPS, constellations, and exploration missions to the Moon, Mars, and Venus.
